PDA Web Access - XHTML Web StandardsXHTML Web Standards

XHTML is the successor to HTML as the standard code used for the construction of a web page.

We pride ourselves in keeping up with the latest web standards and now use XHTML 1.0 for all custom developments and XHTML 1.1 wherever possible.

Some of the keyfeatures are that XHTML:

  • Interoperability and portability: A properly structured XHTML document can be reformatted for use on a variety of display devices, including mobile phones, PDAs, and other handheld devices.
  • Improves standardisation: By imposing stricter rules and increasing consitency makes it easier for browsers, search engines, and users to properly interpret the page. This ensures the web pages and it's functions work and display correctly on all machines.
  • Improves accessibility: XHTML documents are more accessible, which means that they work better with screen readers and other adaptive technologies. It also means that they score better with search engines.
  • Encourages cleaner code: This makes web sites faster to load and easier to maintain.
  • Enforces best practices: Many of the recommended best practices for HTML are requirements in XHTML This ensures that no shortcuts are being used in the development of your web pages. Errors are not allowed in XHTML.
  • Makes more tools available: Since XHTML is an XML application, there is the possibility of using the growing number of XML tools to develop, maintain, and transform your web documents.
